World Sleep Day 2024

Sleep is a very normal yet important aspect of life. People don’t talk about it. But people with sleep problems know the exact importance of sleep. And for them it’s a real challenge to get enough sleep.

World Sleep Day is about educating people about the importance of sleep, changing views of people about sleep and elevating the conversation of sleep. It aims to provide help to those who are facing sleep problems, providing toolkits, resources which help people in daily lives

Celebrate world sleep day:

Have you ever imagined that you will be celebrating sleep one day? Celebrating World Sleep Day is such an easy and fun thing to do.

What can you do to celebrate?

Sleep awareness programmes:

Get connected with the foundations which promote sleep awareness. Try to make some time in the day to talk about sleep with people.

Make a Good Night Sleep Routine:

Make a Good Night Sleep Routine (intentionally for this day). You can add these things also to your Good Night Sleep Routine.

Create healthy sleep environment:

Clean your room, make it more relaxing. Sometimes cozy rooms help your mind to relax and sleep easily at night. Keep your room cool. Cool temperature helps in having a sound sleep. Take a chance on world sleep day and clean your room and celebrate.

Comfortable sheets and bedding:

Many people face sleep problems just because they don’t feel comfortable in bed. Almost half of their sleep time goes in adjusting and trying to feel comfortable. Having a good bed, pillow and new sheets improves sleep quality by more than 55%. So, go and buy some new sheets and bedding.

Regular sleep schedule:

Do you know about the Circadian rhythm? This is the internal clock which regulates alertness and sleepiness. When you go to sleep at the same time every day, it helps the body and mind to remember your sleep timing. Which helps in sleep improvement.

Stay aways from your phone:

Many people do this thing. They keep watching their phones (reels/shorts/social media) till they go to bed. Melatonin is the hormone which is released in the darkness by the pineal gland. Melatonin also regulates the sleep – wake cycle, Secretion of melatonin causes drowsiness and lowering the body temperature. But people keep on using their phones even after feeling drowsy. What happens after that? Devices like phones directly show impact on the production of melatonin which directly affects the sleep cycle. everyone must drop this  habit. That is why everyone should stay aways from your phone or laptop or any other device before going to bed.

Exercise:

Do exercise. As everyone knows, doing exercise is very helpful in every aspect of life. Whether you want to lose weight, whether you want to gain weight, be healthy, active. Just like that exercise helps in improving sleep. But don’t do exercise too late. That may cause a reverse effect. Exercise makes the body alert and produces other hormones which will cause sleep problems.

Read the book:

For many people it is hard to stay away from mobile phones. For them – read a book. Reading books (not on screen.) helps in relaxing your mind and improves sleep quality. Reading books engages your mind with words and imagination and helps those thoughts in your mind calm down. You can add this to your sleep routine.

Meditation:

Meditation is the best option for everything. Do meditation before going to sleep. It helps in improving your sleep quality. Only 15 minutes of meditation can help you declutter your mind and have a good sleep.

I will suggest trying these things everyday. Small things make big changes. These things will definitely bring a big change in your life.

Lastly

On this World Sleep Day, take a chance to talk with people as it is a really important topic. Lack of sleep is the cause of many chronic diseases. So, don’t ignore this and try to talk with people. Spread awareness. We actually don’t know what problem someone is facing but talking with them and listening to them may help a lot.

World Sleep Day is on 15th March 2024.

I really hope the readers of this page have a great night’s sleep. From the bottom of my heart I wish you a very Happy World Sleep Day.

  1. Thank you for raising awareness around this topic! I only recently heard about World Sleep Day. You’re right—we don’t talk about sleep enough. I like to say a good day starts the night before. I’ll do my best to celebrate and sleep for 8 hours that night. 🙂
